Hormonal imbalances in PCOS are primarily due to increased levels of androgens and irregular estrogen and progesterone levels. The hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, which regulates hormone production, becomes dysregulated. This leads to increased secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) relative to follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), causing the ovaries to produce androgens instead of estrogen. High androgen levels result in symptoms like acne, hirsutism, and irregular menstrual cycles.
