What Are the Cellular Effects of Elevated Androgens?
Elevated androgens in PCOS affect various cellular pathways. They can disrupt the normal process of folliculogenesis, the growth and development of ovarian follicles. Androgens can also interact with insulin signaling pathways, exacerbating insulin resistance. Additionally, high androgen levels may affect adipocytes (fat cells), leading to an increase in abdominal fat and further contributing to insulin resistance.
